Our Story
Hello there. We’re Zopa.
We started our journey back in 2005, building the first ever peer-to-peer lending company. Fast forward to 2020 and we launched Zopa Bank. A bank that listens to what our customers don’t like about finance and does the opposite. We’re redefining what it feels like to work in finance. Our vision for a new era of banking puts people front and centre — we’ve built a business that empowers everyone to aim high, every day, to move finance forward. Find out more about our fantastic offerings at Zopa.com!
We’re incredibly proud of our achievements and none of it would be possible without the amazing team here. It’s not just industry awards we’re winning, we’ve also been named in the top three UK’s Most Loved Workplaces.
If you embrace unconventional challenges, are unafraid to think differently and are driven to make an outsized impact, you’ll thrive here at Zopa, so join us, and make it count. Want to see us in action? Follow us on Instagram @zopalife
Reporting to the Senior Director for Risk and Compliance (SMF16), the Head of Compliance will directly drive the work of the team in setting policies and conducting monitoring and assurance, to ensure that Zopa properly implements compliance requirements around good conduct and good customer outcomes, consistent with the Consumer Duty.
We have a friendly, fun, and progressive culture where everyone contributes towards the growth of the business, so a parallel mind-set is what we are looking for.

A day in the life:

  • Manage the development and maintenance of Zopa’s compliance frameworks and policies
  • Steer second-line monitoring of the business, reviewing MI and first-line reporting to verify that compliance risks are being managed and that good customer outcomes are being achieved
  • Lead independent second-line compliance assurance, including policy compliance reviews and sampling of key compliance-related controls and customer journeys
  • Horizon scanning for new conduct- and customer-related regulatory requirements, identifying changes and ensuring they are implemented in policy and communicated to the business for implementation
  • Provide second-line review on new products and other business initiatives from a compliance perspective
  • Produce briefings to senior staff and committees on compliance-related matters

About you:

  • Excellent knowledge of the UK regulatory landscape, particularly FCA and broader consumer-focused regulation
  • Strong experience in senior compliance roles in financial services
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills, capable of building and managing the work of high-performing compliance teams
  • Ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable strategies for all levels of the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas simply and compellingly to staff at all levels, from junior Zopians to senior executives
