What’s Yonder?

“It's as if Time Out, Amex and Monzo had a baby” - Will T, Yonder Member

We’re building the financial membership of the future. Starting with a credit card that has fun and experiences at its core, we’re the antithesis to your dad’s stuffy, corporate, boring credit card.

While tech is revolutionising the finance industry, credit is still stuck in the stone ages. We want to create a world where financial services are fair and conscious, and the stress of debt is eliminated for everyone.

We announced our £62.5M Series A raise in 2023, and we’re backed by some of the best in the business. We’ve attracted top talent from OVO, Ziglu, Monzo, and Wise. Over the last 18 months, we’ve grown from just an idea to a beautiful, fully regulated credit product that our members absolutely love.

Sounds cool. So what’s my part in this?

Our VP Strategy & Ops, MC, is looking for a Business Operations Manager to take ownership over some core parts of our operations as well as provide valuable support for special projects across the business.

Day-to-day, this means:

  • Long-term ownership (~50% of your time): You’ll take long-term ownership over…

    • Our supply chain for physical cards: You’ll manage the relationship with our card supplier, forecast card volumes and manage orders/inventory to ensure we always have enough stock on hand, work on cost-saving initiatives, and implement card changes when we change our physical card designs or materials

    • Our travel insurance member benefit: You’ll manage the relationship with our travel insurance provider and deal with any coverage issues that come up. You’ll also work on cost-saving initiatives and explore supplements or improvements to the coverage

    • Company ceremonies & communication between teams: We run a set of company ‘ceremonies’ each month. You’ll test out changes to these to improve information-sharing and communication across the business. You’ll also own our central source for communication (our company Notion) and be accountable for keeping this up to date

  • Special projects (~50% of your time): The projects you work on across the business will vary based on focus / team needs but could include:

    • Helping our partnerships team target new partners or forecast engagement

    • Working on expansion plans

    • Supporting on people initiatives (particularly while people team members are on parental leave!)

This is the first business operations role at Yonder so there is opportunity to shape the role based on what your interests and the business’s needs.

You're a great fit if you

Are a great problem solver and can get to the ‘crux’ of a problem quickly (regardless of topic / area); you’ll likely have a background in consulting or previous experience in a founder’s associate or chief of staff role

✅ Want to work across a range of topics and functions and are happy to jump in where the business needs the most support

✅ Have a knack for creating and optimising operational processes

Love getting hands-on, meaning you want to see projects all the way to the end (vs. handing over a set of recommendations)

Resilient in a challenging, fast-paced environment

You won’t be a great fit if you

👎 Aren’t comfortable with changing priorities. Things change quickly at Yonder, and there will be times you need to shift focus quickly to support where help is needed most!

👎 Don’t want to get hands-on with implementation - you’ll diagnose problems and come up with ideas for across the business - and then be responsible for implementing them as well

👎 Don’t want to embrace the growing pains and challenges together. We're still in the building phase so all ideas are welcome!

👎 Are daunted by the idea of autonomy

What’s it like working at Yonder?

🏢 We’re office-first, remote-friendly. We’re based in our Old Street office (Moving soon to Hoxton), complete with a terrace, breakfast, coffee, dogs and plenty of comfortable space to do your best work.

🤍 We take a values led approach. Our principles are incredibly important to us, so we recommend you check them out here: Our DNA

💪 We work hard (but have fun whilst we do it). Everyone at Yonder gets stuck in and contributes to the wider success of the business. It is incredibly rewarding but don’t expect a normal 9-5.

📚 We take development really seriously. We have a pretty structured process for progression, with fortnightly one-on-ones and quarterly peer perspectives. We want our people to grow faster than our business.

What’s in it for me?

We operate transparent salary bandings across the business. For this role, you’ll be looking at:

💰 £60,000 annual salary

📈 £45,000 in options

Plus

✈️ 27 days annual leave

⛷ Regular team-building trips and activities

❤️‍🩹 Private healthcare with Vitality, including mental health, dental & vision cover

🐣 16 weeks enhanced parental leave for all parents after being with Yonder for 1 year

🧠 Learning & training allowance (£500/year) that you can use on books, courses, etc

🍳 Monthly team lunches

🥣 Office breakfast, coffee, snacks & drinks

⛳️ Monthly team events like Mini-golf, Escape Room, Cocktail making

🚴 Cycle-to-work scheme

What’s the application process like?

We take the candidate experience really seriously, so we’ve made the process as transparent as possible. We also promise to be super responsive, and will never leave you wondering where you stand for weeks on end.

Here’s how it works:

  • Stage 1: Intro call (45 mins):

You will have an initial Zoom call with MC to find out more about you and to tell you more about us.

  • Stage 2: Case interview (60 mins):

We’ll work through a live case study during this interview to go over your problem solving skills. This would ideally be in person in our office (but virtual is OK!). This round will be with MC and a member of our finance team

  • Stage 3: Face-to-face interview (2 hours):

Two 60-minute interviews to learn more about how you work. This will also be a great opportunity for you to meet the rest of the team so we would love it if you can come into the office for it! Interviews will be structured as follows:

    • Experience interview: We’ll deep dive into your CV and talk about your past experiences. This stage will be with with two people from our wider team (including one of our founders!)

    • Values interview: We want to learn more about how you work - we’ll ask you questions related to our principles (Our DNA). This stage will be with two people from our wider team.

    We’ll also include a 15-minute comfort break ☕️

  • Stage 4: Offer 🤩 If everyone’s happy, we’ll make you an offer to join us 🎉 All offers are subject to right to work & criminal background checks. We’ll also do a reference check - ideally with a previous manager on the phone.

🌈 We know that diverse teams build better products. If you’re from an under-represented community, we’d especially love to hear from you.

👉 Even if you don’t feel 100% qualified, please do apply anyway. We love wonky career paths and your attitude and desire to grow are just as important as your experience.
