What’s Yonder?

We’re building the financial membership of the future. Starting with a credit card that has fun and experiences at its core, we’re the antithesis to your dad’s stuffy, corporate, boring credit card.

Whilst tech is revolutionising the finance industry, credit is still stuck in the stone ages. We want to create a world where financial services are fair and conscious, and the stress of debt is eliminated for everyone. We're taking a values lead approach to changing credit for everyone, so we recommend you check them out here: Our DNA.

We announced our £62.5M Series A raise in 2023 and we’re backed by some of the best in the business and have attracted top talent from the likes of OVO, Ziglu, Monzo and Wise.

Over the last 18 months, we’ve grown from just an idea to a beautiful, fully regulated credit product that our members absolutely love.

Sounds cool. So what’s my part in this?

We’re looking for a Senior Frontend engineer to come and join our incredible team of frontend developers: Vytautas, Jas and Magda. The frontend team build our beautifully designed Android and iOS applications in React Native and our web-app in Next.js. We’re seeking someone passionate about executing the minute-design details that make every experience wonderful.

You’ll get to work with the wider engineering team on influencing how we build the financial membership of the future, you’ll be deeply involved in crafting the direction of the product roadmap and invest heavily in creating delightful customer experiences.

You'll be joining a small engineering team with deep end-to-end ownership over their own development work and the technical direction of our product. As a small team, the work you do has a huge impact and you’ll get to shape the future of engineering at Yonder.

What you’ll be doing

  • Develop our iOS and Android mobile apps: You’ll be responsible for delivering on our product and design vision into our iOS and Android mobile apps. Using React Native you’ll be adding our latest features, iterating on our existing ones and ensuring a magical experience for all our members.

  • Build out our web-app in Next.js: With a freshly launched web app in Next.js, you’ll be building on the foundations the team has in place, and bringing the latest technologies to ensure we can deliver an experience on the web that rivals our mobile apps.

  • Closely collaborating in cross-functional squads: Work incredibly closely with our product and design teams to create magical moments across all our frontend clients that elevate us above a typical credit card.

  • Full lifecycle ownership: Own the development lifecycle from the ground up—defining stories, overseeing testing, and orchestrating deployments to ensure our products get into our members hands as quickly as possible.

  • Leading technical discussions: Lead the charge in pivotal technical discussions, influencing decisions on architecture, tool selection, and methodologies that push the boundaries of what's possible.

  • Mentorship and team leadership: Provide mentorship to the rest of the frontend team, building their technical abilities and knowledge in our various frontend technologies.

You're a great fit if you

  • Know Next.js inside-out: Experienced in building robust web apps using Next.js, particularly with server-side rendering techniques. You can push the boundaries of what is possible with web technologies to create magical moments for everyone.

  • Skilled in React Native: You’ve used React Native to build great apps that have been shipped into end-users hands.

  • You sweat the small stuff: Attention to detail of the tiny things matter to you. You go above and beyond to execute on all the small design details that add to an incredible experience. You are a partner to the design team and strive to make every interaction special.

  • Cross-platform expertise: Making it work on one platform isn’t good enough. You strive for a delightful experience that works across iOS, Android and the web.

  • Familiarity with design systems: You’ve used a design system in the past, you know when it makes sense, but also know when to throw it out the window and build something truly special.

  • Take ownership and accountability: You think about the bigger picture and try to understand the wider effects of the work, you challenge and get into the nitty-gritty details of why you’re doing something.

  • Thrive in ambiguity: Thrives in uncertain environments, effectively setting directions and navigating challenges with confidence when there are so many unknowns.

  • Stage 3: Values interview (60 mins): We want to learn more about how you work - we’ll ask you questions related to our principles (Our DNA). This stage will be with two people from our wider team.

  • Stage 4: System design interview (60 mins): We'll deep dive into your technical experience, talk about projects you've worked on and work through designing a system on a whiteboard.

  • Stage 5: Offer 🤩 If everyone’s happy, we’ll make you an offer to join us 🎉 All offers are subject to right to work & criminal background checks. We’ll also do a reference check - ideally with a previous manager on the phone.

🌈 We know that diverse teams build better products. If you’re from an under-represented community, we’d especially love to hear from you.

👉 Even if you don’t feel 100% qualified, please do apply anyway. We love wonky career paths and your attitude and desire to grow are just as important as your experience.
