Meet Tuza

Tuza is building an exchange for payment pricing to give businesses access to the most competitive rates for their payment terminals. Changing payment providers is broken: a cornershop turning over £300k a year could save £5k+ a year by changing payment provider, but they don’t.

For businesses, it’s lengthy, lacks transparency, and often costly to switch. For providers, finding customers and helping them switch is manual and old-fashioned. It’s an industry crying out for change.

Tuza turns a week-long switching process into minutes, giving business owners their pick of the best rates from the likes of Worldpay, Barclaycard, and Natwest, saving them thousands of pounds a year in the process. All at zero cost for the business owner.

And the really exciting part? Later in 2024, we’re launching our own card machine. It’ll be the first card machine where you can change bank, without changing device. We’re bringing the unlocked phone-moment to card payments. With Tuza, you’ll never need to feel the pain of switching again.

We’ve raised £5.5m+ (shh not public yet) from exceptional fintech investors, including Northzone (original backers of Zettle, Trustpilot, Klarna) and Connect (first investor into Typeform, Citymapper). Angels are from Apple, Stripe, Visa, Wise etc.

Square, Sumup and Zettle have been hitting small businesses for years, but struggled to break into the 1m+ retailers who do £200k to £10m in annual card turnover. It’s this group that have been neglected by the banks, and we’re excited for you to help us transform their experience with payments.

We think you’d be an excellent…

backend engineer, you will help build and maintain the infrastructure that powers our payment pricing, boarding and routing engines. You'll go deep into the stack, designing, building and maintaining the modules that serve a suite of innovative products from our payments terminal application to our price comparison platform. Your day to day could involve anything from implementing optimised pricing algorithms to integrating with partner API’s to data analytics. You'll also have the opportunity to spin up MVPs of new products and features that we're excited about.

What we need:

  • 3 - 5 years of software engineering experience (we will consider recent grads who can demonstrate proficiency with our stack).

  • Proficient with Typescript, Node, Express, PostgreSQL, and AWS (S3, Lambda).

  • Experience building APIs and managing a large number of third-party integrations

  • Experience designing and building highly scalable, highly available and data-driven systems

  • Opinionated about product: you care about creating beautiful user and developer experiences.

  • Value autonomy, moving fast and getting Sh*t done.

  • Excited to come into the London office 3 days a week.

What we offer:

  • Competitive salary

  • Generous equity linked to your salary

  • You should always have the headspace to perform your best at home and work, so we have an unlimited holiday policy with an expected minimum of 24 days. You’ll also get £350 Airbnb credit to take a break you might not have done otherwise.

  • Comprehensive health insurance

  • Pension

  • Creative office space in Spitalfields, London with free breakfast twice a week

We’d love to discuss you joining the team.

We’ve been on the other side of the table: recruiters who waste your time, job offers that don’t materialise, and technical challenges that you don’t even get feedback on.

So here’s the process:

  1. 30 min intro call

  2. If we think the role is a good fit, we’ll send over a technical challenge (sorry). If you think you have a Github repo that proves you’re a great fit without a need for this, let us know.

  3. We’ll do a 60 minute final session, ideally in person (Spitalfields, London). In this, you’ll meet the team and have 2-3 final interviews.
