Murphy AI is a next-generation debt collection platform powered by artificial intelligence, designed to optimize recovery rates while maintaining respectful and personalized communication. Our advanced automation streamlines the process of collecting overdue invoices for businesses, providing a seamless and effective solution.
At Murphy AI, we’re tackling one of the toughest challenges in fintech: making debt recovery more efficient, autonomous and scalable. Our AI-powered agents adapt instantly, engaging with debtors across channels like voice, email and sms to maximize results while preserving trust. By combining advanced artificial intelligence with powerful automation, we’re setting a new standard for how businesses recover payments.
As a fast-growing startup that has already made an impact within less than a year in the market, we are building a talented team to scale our operations and drive our vision forward 🌟
💼 About the Role
As a Junior DevOps Engineer, your mission is to make sure Murphy runs smoothly in production every day: reliable services, clear visibility, and fast incident response. You’ll monitor our cloud infrastructure, support developers through operational ticketing, and improve runbooks and operational processes so the team can ship safely and move fast.
This role is ideal if you like owning day-to-day operations, enjoy practical troubleshooting, and want to grow into a Platform/DevOps engineer with close support from senior teammates.
📝 Responsibilities
Monitor the platform and services (EKS, workloads, RDS/Postgres, Kafka, Airflow) using dashboards, logs, and alerts (primarily Datadog) to detect anomalies and performance degradation.
Own incident response end to end: triage, prioritize, mitigate, escalate to senior engineers/service owners when needed, and keep stakeholders updated until resolution.
Support development teams via ticketing (ideally Jira): gather context, propose next steps, resolve operational requests when possible, and route/escalate when appropriate.
Execute recurring operational tasks (health checks, verifications, pipeline validations) following established procedures and ensuring traceability in tickets.
Perform basic Kubernetes troubleshooting (EKS): assess pod/node health, resources, events, and logs to identify issues and apply safe mitigations.
Contribute to Infrastructure as Code under supervision (Terraform/OpenTofu): small PRs, validations, reading plans, and applying controlled changes.
Maintain and improve operational documentation: runbooks, checklists, “common issues” guides, and clear escalation criteria based on real incidents.
Follow change control and security best practices: request approval for sensitive production-impacting changes, and handle IAM and secrets according to internal processes.
📚 Requirements
1+ year of experience in a cloud operations / DevOps / SRE support role.
Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting AWS services in production environments.
Practical experience with Kubernetes (ideally EKS): basic diagnostics (pods, nodes, events, logs), resource concepts, and day-to-day operational workflows.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or OpenTofu: running workflows under supervision, opening small PRs, and understanding plan outputs.
Experience with monitoring, logs, and alerting (ideally Datadog) and responding to incidents using runbooks or defined procedures.
Comfortable working with ticketing workflows (ideally Jira): clear updates, proper follow-up, and closing with resolution details.
Strong documentation skills: writing and maintaining runbooks, checklists, and “common issues” guides.
🤖 Our stack
Infrastructure: Microservices, Kubernetes, AWS, PostgreSQL, Terraform
Observability: DataDog
CI/CD: GitHub Actions
Backend: Node.js, TypeScript, Python, Kafka.
⭐️ Nice to have
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (or Associate-level)
HashiCorp Terraform Associate
CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator)
LPIC-1 (Linux Professional Institute Certification)
