About Kota
Kota is the world's first fully integrated benefits platform, where insurance and retirement providers are powered and billed in one place. We do this by building the infrastructure on the Internet for insurance providers to get online and enhance their distribution opportunities for a new era of workers—those with increased financial literacy, expecting consumer-first user experiences and a global outlook.
Our mission is to make insurance and benefits more accessible and delightful to this generation of employees. Kota was started in 2022 and has raised €7.6m from Europe’s top technology investors, including EQT Ventures, Northzone, Frontline and angels, including Job Van Der Voort of Remote.com, Romain Huet, formerly of Stripe, now Open AI, David Clarke formerly of Workday. The companies our investors have previously backed or built include the likes of Spotify, Airbnb, Klarna, Truelayer, Snapchat, Workday, Personio, Workvivo, Pointy, Workable, Wayflyer and more. We work remotely and our team is spread from Ireland to all the way in India.
About the role
This is a full-time, remote, 4 month contract (extendable) with an immediate start date
You’ll be joining us early on our journey as we build the internet infrastructure for the future of employee benefits.
At our small team, we value your voice and ownership. When you join, you’ll work across our platform, and make meaningful decisions on how it should evolve.
Your ideas and contributions will be highly valued. Contributing outside of code—it could help us with some compliance deep dives or help someone with an urgent issue. Startups can be a little less defined.
We’re hiring someone who
Takes ownership of significant system design problems and planning, communicating, and executing those problems with the team.
Prioritises user experience above all else. You understand that the user is at the heart of everything we do, from protecting their data to ensuring fast load times.
Regularly makes use of testing frameworks and knows it's importance.
You lean more towards over-communicating with the team than under-communicating.
You are excited but driven to push our team and company to improve. They are a source of inspiration and motivation, always striving for improvement within engineering and beyond.
Knows when to ship and when to reevaluate. We take our role in our client's financial wellness seriously and pride ourselves on executing quickly.
Has an eye for building software with observability and a proactive mindset towards handling issues.
What is required
Have 6+ years of experience building backend systems.
Has a firm grasp of .NET (we use .NET 6) and SQL database design and has experience with ORM frameworks.
Have a degree in CS (or Equiv.), graduated from a bootcamp or taught yourself.
Come from a background in startups, scale-ups, or established companies in the industry.
Excel in teams and are comfortable working with systems and tech stacks you don’t necessarily have experience with, care more about problem-solving than specific tools.
Experience in fintech sector, payroll or benefits industry is preferred.
You are driven by the prospect of shaping the future of benefits infrastructure for the internet.
Minimum 4 hours of overlap with GMT timezone
Don’t rule yourself out if you cannot do most of or all of the above. We’d love to hear from you if you feel you’re still best placed for the role.
