In your role as a Staff Engineer - Operations Tech (m/f/d), you will be at the very core of users’ and workforces’ delivery journey, architecting the future of how we offer a reliable and efficient delivery experience to our millions of customers. This is not just a coding role; you will be a technical leader, strategist, and role model, instrumental in pioneering our world-class platform.
Working at the exciting intersection of high-performance backend engineering and applied science, you will define technical direction, tackle ambiguous problems, and build resilient, scalable systems in close collaboration with our Analytics, Operations, and Data Science teams to integrate sophisticated and efficient solutions into our products.
Job Description
- Drive Technical Strategy: You will work with the Operations Tech domain leadership to identify and remove organizational bottlenecks in the order fulfillment process, solve "unsolvable" problems, and take direct accountability for business performance;
- Architect & Build: Design, develop, and operate high-throughput, low-latency backend services using GoLang, deployed on Kubernetes. Support our client applications (React Web, Native React, iOS, and Android) to offer the best experience to our users, aligned with the backend solutions;
- Be the "Multiplier": Act as a strong technical leader and a key influencer across the wider engineering organization. You will mentor other engineers, lead architectural discussions, and make pragmatic trade-offs to deliver customer value effectively. You should also enable the integration of the different platforms teams across Mobile and Web to achieve their best work by designing consistent, standardized domain interfaces that eliminate boilerplate and technical friction;
- Bridge the Gap: Act as the technical point person for large-scale, cross-functional initiatives involving multiple teams (e.g., Fulfillment, Inventory, Dispatching);
- Innovate & De-risk: Champion a culture of experimentation by regularly using proofs of concept and low-cost experiments to validate architectural choices, improve planning, and mitigate risks;
- Collaborate Deeply: Work hand-in-hand with Domain Leadership, Engineer Managers, Product Managers, Analysts, Data Scientists, and other business stakeholders to shape product decisions and integrate cutting-edge solutions into our production systems;
- Mentor & Sponsor: Foster a culture of continuous learning. You aren't just a role model, you are a sponsor for the next generation of engineers.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in backend software engineering, with a proven track record of designing, building, and maintaining complex, scalable, and business-critical systems;
- Deep proficiency in GoLang and event-based communication. Mobile and Web applications proficiency (React Web, Native React, iOS, and Android) is a significant plus;
- Strong, hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, particularly Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD practices (we use ArgoCD);
- Demonstrable experience with modern observability stacks and a data-driven approach to system health and performance (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana);
- AI-assisted development experience and enthusiasm, leveraging coding agents like GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, Claude Code, or similar tools;
- Proven ability to convey complex backend topics to non-technical stakeholders and mobile/frontend peers with ease;
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences;
- You choose the "right tool for the job" by balancing the appetite for change with the long-term stability of the org;
- You know when to jump into the code to squash a critical bug and when your time is better spent reviewing a proposal or meeting with a Founder.
