We are currently looking for a Senior Backend Engineer (GIS) experienced in working with mid to large scale geospatial data.

What you’ll work on:

• Creating and overseeing the underlying geospatial data infrastructure that supports GIS applications.  
• Designing and developing the databases, APIs, and software components to enable the storage, retrieval, and manipulation of location-based data.
• Collaborating as a member of a data-focused team to process and prepare core product data to be delivered for consumption by the web and mobile apps, as well as partners.
• Work together to identify and address technical debt, code inefficiencies and performance bottlenecks to continuously improve our application, with the user’s experience and user business value in mind.
• Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and learning.
• Act as a technical advocate in product discussions to represent our engineering capabilities and contribute to our overall technical strategy.

What we are fishing for:

• You have experience working with mid to large scale geospatial data.
  
• You have experience using GIS software such as QGIS and open source tools like PostGIS.
  
• You are comfortable with data acquisition and management of the various formats and qualities of geospatial data currently available.
• You have strong software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, design patterns, and complexity analysis.
• You have got experience with databases like mySQL or PostgreSQL, networking and running distributed software in a cloud environment.
• You are smart, get stuff done, have great energy, and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Extra nice to have
  • You are fluent in one of the programming languages: Ruby or Python
  • Experience with data visualizations
  • Experience with infrastructure such as ElasticSearch, AWS, Docker or Terraform
  • Experience with designing for performance in systems at scale and under heavy load.

Our office is based in Stockholm (Södermalm) and we have a hybrid-remote work arrangement. We prioritize in-person collaboration, which means we operate from our offices at least two days per week.
