About the Team:

You will join a collaborative team of technical specialists who support data science initiatives across the UK, Ireland, and Europe. The team works closely with colleagues in Technology, Product, Account Management, Project Management, Marketing, Finance, and Legal to improve products and support data‑informed decision‑making.

About the Role:

This role is suited to an experienced data professional who enjoys working across a variety of projects. You will apply data science and analytics techniques to real‑world business challenges, contribute to new and existing products, and communicate insights clearly to a wide range of audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to data science projects across multiple business areas
  • Design and build analytical solutions, including data processing, statistical analysis, and machine learning
  • Explore new datasets and identify practical, high‑value use cases
  • Work collaboratively with technology, product, and data engineering teams to deliver reliable, production‑ready solutions
  • Communicate analytical findings clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Support project planning, including requirements, timelines, and delivery
  • Help improve analytics platforms and cloud‑based workflows, including testing and migration activities
  • Use a combination of open‑source and proprietary tools to develop solutions

Skills and Experience

  • Professional experience in data science, analytics, or a related field
  • Strong experience working with data, including extracting, cleaning, and transforming structured and semi‑structured data
  • Proficiency in SQL and in at least one programming language such as Python or R
  • Experience or interest in scalable data processing (e.g. distributed or cloud‑based systems)
  • Understanding of data quality, integrity, and maintainable code practices
  • Familiarity with version control and collaborative development practices
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly in writing and verbally
  • Experience working in regulated or commercial environments is helpful but not required
  • A degree or equivalent practical experience in a quantitative, technical, or analytical field
  • Advanced degrees and formal certifications are valued but not essential

About the Team/Role
You will join technical experts with insurance industry knowledge, and work with and support data science teams supporting the UKI & EU business. The team helps maintain current product offerings, support the build out of new products as well as support internal decision making through advanced data science techniques.

Our product offerings support our customers decision making, around pricing, underwriting and detecting fraud risk. We are also currently expanding our product suite to include products for use at point of claim. We are focused on building out new products for use at the point of claim and expanding our breath of vehicle data offerings.

Our team works and collaborates with all business units across the organisation including Technology, Product, Account Management, Project Managers, Marketing, Finance and Legal.

The ideal candidate will have a blend of Data Science expertise, knowledge of Cloud infrastructure and process migration, a good understanding of the insurance market (in particular, pricing and underwriting practices) as well as exemplary communication skills who will work well within a strong team.

Location: Ireland/UK

What you will be doing

  • Working as a Data Science expert in the team, flexing across different projects as needed

  • Designing and developing new products, covering data processing (ETL), statistical analysis, and machine learning

  • Exploring and understanding new datasets, identifying optimal use cases, and applying appropriate analytical and ML techniques

  • Collaborating closely with technology, product, and data engineering teams to deliver scalable, production-ready solutions

  • Travelling periodically between Ireland and the UK for internal and external meetings and workshops (project-dependent, not constant)

  • Communicating complex analytical results clearly and effectively to demonstrate product value to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Providing regular status updates internally and presenting project work externally where required

  • Contributing to project planning, including requirements definition, timelines, and execution plans

  • Supporting the development of analytics infrastructure in collaboration with technology teams, including testing processes and cloud best practices to enable smooth migration

  • Developing solutions using a mix of open-source tools and proprietary technologies

  • Mentoring and overseeing team members in the execution of project tasks

Required Experience

  • Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field (or equivalent experience); advanced degree preferred

  • Minimum of 7 years’ relevant professional experience (time spent completing an MSc or PhD can count toward this)

  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and able to work flexibly across projects and teams

  • Strong collaboration skills and experience leading or mentoring others

  • Strong data processing expertise, including extraction, cleaning, parsing, and working with multiple data formats (e.g. Avro, Parquet, JSON, XML, relational databases)

  • Strong SQL skills (or equivalent)

  • High proficiency in Python or R; experience with Apache Spark and distributed computing frameworks highly desirable

  • British or Irish citizenship and willingness to travel periodically between the UK and Ireland

  • Experience building data pipelines with automated testing

  • Strong understanding of data integrity, consistency, and quality

  • Proven ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex topics clearly

  • Familiarity with coding best practices, documentation standards, and Git-based version control

Preferred Experience

  • Hands-on experience working with insurance data and insurance modelling

  • Experience with Azure ML and Azure data storage services (e.g. Azure Blob Storage, Azure Data Lake Gen2)

  • Understanding of wider Azure architecture and ability to collaborate effectively with architects, data engineers, and technology teams

  • Experience using Databricks for large-scale data processing

  • Familiarity with Linux environments

  • Experience with BI and visualisation tools such as Power BI, R Shiny, or equivalent
